What is a Static Project?
Static projects are projects that include technical designs and calculations prepared to ensure that buildings, bridges, dams and other engineering structures are constructed in a safe, solid and durable manner. An important part of the civil engineering discipline, a static project determines how the structure’s carrier system will be constructed and includes calculations to ensure structural safety.
Static Project Stages
A static project is usually created through the following stages:
- Preliminary Project and Analysis
In the first stage, structural analyses are performed in accordance with the architectural project. At this stage, the general structure of the carrier system is determined and initial static calculations are performed. The design process begins by considering the purpose of use of the structure, ground conditions and environmental factors.
- Ground Survey and Load Analysis

- Carrier System Design
In this stage, the design of columns, beams, slabs, foundation system and other carrier elements is made. The most suitable carrier system is determined using different materials such as reinforced concrete, steel or wood.
- Calculations and Structural Analysis
Various structural analyses are performed within the scope of the static project. Using engineering software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, the forces affecting the structure are calculated and the durability of the carrier system is tested. In addition, compliance with regulations such as TS 500, Eurocode or ACI is ensured.
- Project Drawings and Reporting
In the final stage, project drawings are prepared in line with the static calculations. Section details, reinforcement placements and dimensions of the structural elements are drawn in detail. In addition, an engineering report is prepared and the calculations and assumptions of the project are documented.
Why is a Static Project Important?
Static projects are of great importance for the long-lasting and safe service of the structure. Incorrect static calculations can lead to the collapse of the structure or major damage. Therefore, it is vital to make correct engineering calculations during the project design phase.
In addition, static projects must comply with legal regulations. Many structures located in earthquake zones in Turkey must be designed in accordance with the Earthquake Regulation. In order to build safe and sustainable structures, static projects must be prepared meticulously.
